6 Happiness criteria of the UN report
The World Happiness Index has been published since 2013 by the UN in its World Happiness Report, the Annual Report on happiness, which has measured the well-being of individuals country by country. The most important criteria in the measure of sense of happiness are as follow, based on data provided by the States, but also on the work of the OECD and the US Gallup. By matching this information, the UN has been able to precisely measure the well-being of individuals by country, but also a list of criteria underlying happiness.
For the UN, six points are essential to the happiness of individuals within a country. Among the various criteria included, GDP per capita, life expectancy in good health and freedom from corruption. Three other criteria put forward by the UN are much less conventional: the ability to make choices freely, generosity and having someone to count on are essential to the happiness of individuals.
From this point of view, countries that are doing best are, once again, Scandinavians. Demonstrated this top 6: Denmark. Norway. Swiss. Netherlands. Suède.Canada.
Main issue for leaders? Mental health. Depression, anxiety, psychoses are not that Western diseases. Even in developed countries, one third of people in mental distress are not processed.
The report emphasizes that the more an individual is pleased, the more productive, long-lived he will be ; he will also earn more and behave in a more civil manner in society. Happiness and well-being should be erected as objectives of public policy, not only for their purpose as such but also for their many positive side effects.
« More and more leaders emphasize the importance of welfare as an objective in the world. The 2013 report demonstrates that analysis and systematic measurement of happiness can teach us a lot about how to increase the global wellness and sustainability, » said Jeffrey Sachs, director of the Earth Institute at Columbia University under the auspices of which the report was published.
