At one point or another, most college students have thought to themselves, “Man, I could really go for a snack right now, but only if it magically appears in front of me.” Now, with the help of Starship Technologies, those dreams of snack-related convenience can finally become a reality.
George Mason University will be provided with at least 25 robots to deliver them food from establishments like Blaze Pizza, Starbucks, and Dunkin’, as well as more to be added in the coming weeks. The delivery bots are capable of carrying up to 20 pounds of goodies; they’ve been tested extensively in partnership with DoorDash and Postmates in a variety of cities over the past few years.
The bots are able to drive themselves on sidewalks and over curbs. They can operate in any weather and navigate around objects and people as a result of the cameras embedded in their exterior. Students will be able to place orders through Starship’s mobile app by dropping a pin anywhere on campus. The robots also feature a locking lid to prevent possible theft.
